[Edward Lowassa] Biography

Edward Ngoyai Lowassa is a Tanzanian politician who used to be Prime Minister of Tanzania under President Jakaya Kikwete from 2005-2008. He is noted as the first Prime Minister in history to resign due to a fraud scandal. Following his resignation, President Kikwete was forced to dissolve the cabinet as required by the Constitution and quickly appointed a new one under Mizengo Pinda. After failing to be selected by CCM as the party's presidential candidate for the October 2015 election, Lowassa left the party and ran as an opposition candidate. Unfortunately, he lost the election to CCM candidate John Magufuli.
