Homi Adajania (Film Director, Writer)

Homi Adajania, born in 1972, is an Indian film director and writer. He made his directorial debut in 2006 with the English-language psychological drama Being Cyrus. His success continued with the Hindi-language romantic comedy Cocktail in 2012. Adajania's other directing credits include the satire Finding Fanny.

Homi Adajania has been an important figure in the film industry since 2006 when he directed and co-wrote the English-language psychological drama Being Cyrus, starring Saif Ali Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, and Boman Irani. The film earned critical acclaim, despite being a commercial failure. He then went on to direct the Hindi-language romantic comedy Cocktail, written by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali featuring Khan, Deepika Padukone, and debutante actress Diana Penty. After its three-week run, the film was declared a hit by Box Office India. His other works include the satirical comedy Finding Fanny (2014) and the Hindi-film Angrezi Medium (2020), starring Irrfan Khan. All of his works have been critically acclaimed, with some having a steady run at the box office.

Homi Adajania was born in a Parsi family to Aspy Adajania, an Indian Army officer and a pioneer of amateur boxing in India who went on to serve as a top administrator of the sport and referee high profile matches. Homi played for the Bombay Gymkhana rugby football team in his youth and is a certified CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques) dive instructor who taught in the Lakshadweep islands. Unfortunately, he lost his beloved sister Zia Diwan Adajania to a stroke in 2014. Homi is married to fashion stylist and the Fashion Director of Vogue India, Anaita Shroff Adajania, with whom he has two children. His sister-in-law, Scherezade Shroff, a well-known YouTuber, is married to actor Vaibhav Talwar.
