Nathaniel Charles Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild, OM, GBE, CVO is a British peer and investment banker from the famous Rothschild banking family. He has held many important roles in business, finance and British public life, and is involved in various philanthropic activities. Nowadays, he is mostly retired.
Abdullah II of Jordan
King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan is a member of the Hashemite dynasty, which has been the reigning royal family of Jordan since 1921. He was born in Amman, and after schooling abroad and military training, he assumed the throne in 1999 following the passing of his father, King Hussein. Under Abdullah's leadership, the economy of Jordan boomed until 2008 and he introduced reforms to the constitution and laws governing public freedoms and elections. Furthermore, he is internationally known for promoting interfaith dialogue and a moderate understanding of Islam. However, the 2021 Pandora Papers leak revealed that Abdullah had a vast empire of wealth that he disguised through offshore companies and tax havens.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a highly influential Turkish statesman, revolutionary and field marshal who is credited as the founding father of modern Republic of Turkey. He is remembered for not only leading the Turkish War of Independence, but also implementing sweeping reforms to modernize Turkey into a secular and industrializing nation. These reforms included introducing free and compulsory primary education, introducing a Latin-based alphabet, giving women equal civil and political rights, and striving to create a homogeneous unified and secular nation. Atatürk's legacy did not just stay in Turkey, as he was honored by the United Nations and UNESCO in 1981 in his centennial year, crediting him for his world-oriented foreign policy and peace-keeping initiatives.
Nouhak Phoumsavanh
Nouhak Phoumsavanh, or Phoumsavan, was a long-time Pathet Lao revolutionary and communist party official who served as the 3rd President of Laos from 1992 to 1998. He was born to an ethnic Lao family in 1923 in Xamtai District, Khammouane Province and joined the communist movement in 1941, becoming the leader of the Party for Lao Freedom in 1945. He served as the Minister of Defence from 1960 to 1975 and was a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 1975 to 1991, as well as the General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 1991 to 1992. He was responsible for carrying out socio-economic reforms and introducing Laos to the international community. Under his leadership, Laos successfully hosted the Ninth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in 1995, marking the country's acceptance in regional diplomacy.
